4 Ozobot Earth Day Activities to Celebrate our Planet of Programming

Welcome to April, everyone! This month houses the day of celebration for our wonderful world, Earth Day, so we thought we’d share some of our ideas to bring the planet party to classrooms everywhere. We can all make efforts to raise awareness for how to best appreciate our home and habitat. Even Pantone’s color of the year for 2019, Living Coral, is a nod to an important piece of our ecosystem!

Join us in exploring the activities below, and consider this bonus idea: as a treat after successfully completing a lesson, learn about Moon phases by biting Oreo cookies into half moons, crescents, and lastly, new moons. We’ve heard of the meme saying, “Don’t reward yourself with food; you’re not a dog.” However, we respectfully disagree—especially when the treat serves a purpose in teaching how the Moon affects the Earth!

RECYCLEbot

Color Codes
Grades K – 5

In this lesson created by Carrie Willis, students will use Color Codes to help Evo or Bit pick up discarded trash that’s actually recyclable, while playing keep away from the landfill and garbage truck. It’s a race to recycle!

Clean Energy Cruise

Color Codes
Grades K – 12

This Earth Day activity allows both Bit and Evo to teach about the different types of energy, mainly renewable (or “clean” energy) and non-renewable. Students should travel to clean energy stops while avoiding the “dirty” energy. We can all learn from our bots in this area, and go home thinking about where in our lives we could run from dirty energy and replace it with clean.

OzoBees Activity

Color Codes
Grades K – 5

Raise awareness on our declining bee population with this #OzoSquad idea from Ms. Kafie on Twitter. Students can draw out elaborate gardens (or other habitats) for their bees (or endangered animal of choice) to explore. Decorate Evo or Bit as a bee and appreciate all they do for our planet as you watch them buzz around!

Bot Beach Cleanup

OzoBlockly
Grades 2 – 12

In this creative prompt, we tackle a challenge close to our hearts at Ozobot HQ: removing waste and litter from our beautiful beaches. Pull out the paper, craft supplies, and DIY skins to outfit your Evo or Bit as a trash bot, then once you’re done cleaning the desktop beach, make sure to recycle and dispose of your own craft materials responsibly!

Don’t forget to share your Earth Day creations with us @Ozobot and use #OzoSquad for the chance to be featured on our social channels! We can’t wait to beam with pride as we all do our part in appreciating this planet together.
