Celebrate Cybersecurity Awareness Month with Ozobot
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and it's the perfect time to help students build safe online habits while they build coding skills. Today's kids are online earlier than ever, playing games, watching videos, and chatting with classmates. Long before they set up their first email account, they're already making choices about passwords, personal information, and which links to click.
That's where Ozobot comes in. Our featured cybersecurity lessons turn big ideas like phishing, encryption, and digital footprints into hands-on challenges students can see, draw, and code. Instead of a lecture on internet safety, students guide a tiny robot through mazes, puzzles, and stories, and they learn to make smart choices along the way.
Whether you teach kindergarten through fifth grade, there's a ready-to-go lesson for your classroom. Here's a look at this year's featured lessons.

Grades K-2:
Building safe habits early
Our youngest learners are ready to start thinking about online safety, and these lessons meet them where they are, with stories, mazes, and plenty of robot fun.
12345 is NOT My Password
Students will help Ozobot navigate a maze by sorting good and bad password choices. Every turn is a decision: is this a strong password, or one that's too easy to guess? Along the way, students will program Ozobot to go left, right, or straight.
Dot's First Day on the Internet!
It's Ozobot Dot's very first day online, and it needs a digital safety coach. Students will guide Dot through online challenges using Color Codes and storytelling. They'll learn which information should stay private, how to spot threats that could expose personal details, and how to program a safe, logical journey. To wrap up, students will design their own online safety story and custom map to teach Dot safe online behavior.
Footprint vs Footprint
Whose footprint is that? Students will start by identifying the footprints of people and common animals. Then they'll follow a trail of footprints and sort the actions they find into appropriate or inappropriate online behavior. It's a playful first introduction to the idea that everything we do online leaves a trace.
CIA Treasure Hunt
Travel the triangle! Students will trace a triangle to find the letters C, I, and A, then discover what each one stands for:
- Confidentiality: some information is meant to be kept private.
- Integrity: information can be changed, so it's important to keep it true.
- Availability: information should be there when we need it.
It's a kid-friendly first look at the CIA Triad, the foundation of how cybersecurity experts protect information.
Grades 3-5:
These lessons go deeper into real-world threats and the reasoning behind safe choices, with more complex coding challenges to match.
My Digital Footprint
Every post, comment, and click adds up. Students will explore how their online choices can shape their online reputation, for better or worse, and consider the long-term consequences. They'll identify behaviors that help or harm a reputation, then program Ozobot to follow a pathway of positive online behaviors.
Secret Code Cryptogram
Discover the secret message! Students will match Color Codes to letters to crack a cryptogram, then celebrate with Ozobot once it's solved. Along the way, they'll see how encryption keeps information safe. Then they'll flip roles and create their own cryptogram for a classmate to solve.
Cybersecurity Circus Maze
Ozobot the Ringmaster has to find all the circus animals and make it to the show on time, but phishing clowns are trying to distract it! Students will read digital messages closely, spot the clues that give away a phishing attempt, and program a track with Direction Color Codes that avoids the traps. It's a great mix of reading comprehension, coding, and real-world threat awareness.
CIA Basic Training
Welcome to CIA bootcamp! With Ozobot as their guide, students will find their inner cybersecurity superhero as they learn to define Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability. They'll explore how each part of the CIA Triad protects information and use Color Codes to demonstrate each one in action.
Dot's Cyber Motto: Don't Click That Link!
Students will help Dot make it through a phishing simulation by uncovering and coding a 10-word motto about safe online behavior. They'll learn to spot red flags in phishing messages and how to respond safely, using sequencing and sentence construction to build the motto. Finally, they'll program Ozobot along a safe path that reinforces smart online choices.
Get started today
Cybersecurity isn't just for IT professionals. It's a life skill, and it starts in the classroom. With Ozobot, students don't just hear about online safety, they code it, solve it, and teach it to others.
