It’s hard to believe that April is already coming to a close. This month has been filled with special days! We’ve celebrated our planet, appreciated the beauty of poetry, had some laughs on April Fools’, got technical for National Robotics Week, and used coding to commemorate Easter.
Needless to say, there were a lot of cool, creative Ozo-things shared with us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram! Thank you for showing us all of your creative ideas with Bit and Evo! Here are some of our favorites.
National Poetry Month
Each year, K–12 students celebrate National Poetry Month in April. The celebration was founded in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets. The aim is to highlight the legacy and ongoing achievement of American poets, assist teachers in bringing poetry into their classrooms, and encourage the reading of poems.
Stephen J Tizzard and Ms. Walsh created this Ozobot haiku for their 8th grade poetry unit. Students write their own haikus and use Ozobots to show the 5-7-5 syllable pattern.
Another Ozobot poetry lesson, shared by Jeanette Campbell, required students to select a poem, look for phonetic devices, and code their Ozobot with special moves Color Codes.
Coding For Easter
Codergarten, a company that offers programming camps and courses, used Ozobot’s 2 Ways to Code for Easter lessons.
Using Color Codes and our Easter Egg Hunt game from our Lesson Library, students guided their Evo around to collect as many eggs as possible.
With our Decorating Easter Eggs lesson, students attached markers to Ozobots then used OzoBlockly to decorate an egg. We loved this pattern, created by Ayden.
Lights out with Evo!
Kathleen Shafer utilized our Eclipses and Celestial Mechanics lesson with her students to model Earth’s rotation and the moon’s revolution. Not only was it a fun, engaging activity for Earth Day, it was a great chance for Evo to show off its super bright LEDs.
Ozobot Amusement Park
In the words of the innovative Walt Disney, “the way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” One of our goals here at Ozobot is to get kids interested in creating technology, rather than just consuming it. This is why we love National Robotics Week because its mission is to share the excitement of robotics with audiences of all ages.
Sylvia McKenzie’s students celebrated National Robotics Week by building roller coaster theme parks. They Color Coded their Evos around the amusement parks and through the rides. We’re sure Evo had a blast!
April Fools’ Day
We played a clever little trick on our OzoSquad this year for April Fools’ Day. We posted about a new update for Evo where the “backwalk” Color Code was replaced with the Floss. Despite Evo’s lack of arms, many of you believed us and were excited to try it out! We were pleasantly surprised with the success of our prank, but we also never want to disappoint our community.
OzoSquad to the rescue. With your help, we devised an OzoBlockly program that would effectively make Evo floss. Thanks for making this our best April Fools’ yet!
#EarthDay Challenge: Bot Beach Cleanup
We took to social media to challenge our OzoSquad with a beach cleanup activity. It was really awesome seeing your students’ creations. Thanks for trying out our ideas and sprucing them up with your own modifications.
