It feels like the school year has only just recently begun, yet here we are approaching winter break already! If you are looking for something to keep your child’s’ mind engaged, and also provide them with a place to go while you’re at work, consider these reputable coding programs in California.
CodeREV Winter Tech Camp
Voted as the “Best Unique Summer Day Camp in L.A.” by CBS, CodeREV offers programs featuring 3D Game Design, Modding in Minecraft, Programming, and Engineering. With locations in Santa Monica and Irvine, the winter day camps are held between December 19 and January 6 with full or half day options. Registration is open now. Children must be between Kindergarten and 9th grade to attend.
Engineering for Kids
This Kern County winter camp offers a new theme each week. Engineering for Kids (EFK) has programs for children ages 7-14, such as robotics, 3D printing, and MinecraftEDU. Tech Smart Academy
Tech Smart Academy is a San Francisco Bay Area coding camp open to kids of all ages. According to their website, “We use a fun, engaging, and unique methodology that appeals to children and makes them yearn for learning.” Classes include game programming, app development, web design, and understanding of algorithms and program logic.
ThoughtSTEM Winter Camp
With camps held at the Fleet Science Center in San Diego, ThoughtSTEM offers two different week-long programs for kids in 4th-6th grade. Students engage in fun, interactive coding with programs such as Star Wars Minecraft Experience and Intro to Coding and Circuits. You can sign your child up for one day, multiple days, or even the full two weeks of classes.
The Coder School
The Coder School has several locations in Northern and Southern California and offers coding camps during the summer and winter breaks. Camp topics include game development, website coding, Python, and Raspberry Pi. Children aged 7 and up are welcome to join. Tech Rocks!
Tech Rocks offers after-school classes, break/week camps, and even Minecraft birthday parties. During the winter camp, your child will gain knowledge in basic computing, Individual Programming Track (IPT), multimedia, game design and development (using Minecraft), and web and app development. Camps are located in San Francisco and San Mateo and are held between 9 am and 3 pm daily. Kids ages 6-14 are invited to attend and camp sessions are held during winter break in December and January.
