Hands-On, Learn Anywhere Lessons Week 6: ELA

For the sixth installment of Ozobot’s Learn Anywhere lesson series, we’re sharing ready-to-run, remote-friendly English Language Arts lessons for grades 2-5. These lessons are aligned with Common Core State Standards and are designed to be completely flexible for remote or in-person learning. Each lesson comes with step-by-step video instruction and is designed to be self-guided and self-paced as needed.

Note: All of Ozobot’s remote-friendly lessons will be free for educators and their students to use through December 1, 2020. After that date, only the initial weeks (including the lessons outlined below) will be free for all, and additional weekly content in Math and ELA will be available only for schools participating in the Ozobot 1:1 ProgramRequest a demo for 1:1 today–you might be surprised by the federal and state initiatives it qualifies for!

If you’re new to Ozobot’s remote-friendly Learn Anywhere lesson series, start with Weeks 1-4 to introduce students to their Ozobots and Color Code basics. Once you’ve completed those intro lessons, dive into the Week 6 ELA lessons below. These lessons use Ozobot Evo and Color Codes to increase student engagement, integrate CS, and get kids working hands-on as they explore irregular plural nouns, prepositions, and more. Standards met include CCSS ELA, CSTA, and ISTE standards (see individual Lesson Plans for details).

Week 6: ELA

Grades 2-5
Color Codes

Recommended pacing: 1 lesson per week
Length of each lesson: 30-45 mins

Grade 2: Picking Out Irregular Plural Nouns

Is it persons or people? 🤔 In this lesson, students will identify the correct way to spell and use irregular plural nouns and use Color Codes to program their Ozobot to move to the correct irregular plural nouns by either turning left or right and use the noun in a sentence.

Grade 3: How to Make a Sandwich

Any project or task can be broken down into smaller steps, making the task easier to complete. This lesson helps third grade students practice identifying smaller steps of an everyday-type of activity like the process of making a sandwich. Students will describe in detail how to make their favorite sandwich (real or imagined).

Grade 4: ID the Structure

Students will identify the structure of short passages of text as chronology, comparison, cause/effect, or problem/solution, then add the correct Color Code to the Activity Sheet to get Ozobot to the correct structure.

Grade 5: Prepositions by Chance

For this assignment, students will use an Ozobot to randomly choose words on the Prepositions by Chance Map and identify the word as a preposition, noun, or adjective. The students will then write a sentence using that word. ✏️
